5.0 out of 5 stars Just the treadmill I am looking for!, December 12, 2010

This review is from: Phoenix 98836 Easy Up Motorized Treadmill (Silver/Black) (Sports)
This treadmill arrived fast and in good shape - well packaged with no damage. Surprisingly, it is so easy to set up. Most of the parts have been pre-assembled, so it only took me and my husband short period of time to get done. The machine is very sturdy and stable, and is quiet as I expected. Its computer is easy to operate, too. I am also very happy with its compact in size, because my space is limited. With the moving wheel I can move easily to different spot if needed.
I enjoy this treadmill a lot and will utilize the preset program to burn more calories and lose more weight as planned!

This review is from: Phoenix 98836 Easy Up Motorized Treadmill (Silver/Black) (Sports)
After doing a good bit of research, I went ahead and bought this treadmill for light walking while at home. Amazon did a great job shipping the unit, I received it very quickly and in great shape. I had to call the customer service number a number of time before anyone answered (the CS is one guy who seems to speak English as a second language). The guy who I got in touch with was very nice, and walked me through getting the wires attached so that the treadmill would function. Unfortunately, after one use...the alignment of belt went out of sync and I was unable to get it fixed with many phone calls, etc. In summary, this treadmill is extremely easy to put together (which was a selling point for me) but is not manufactured well at all and is not able to be re-adjusted once the belt gets out of alignment. A huge amount of work getting this thing returned now. Amazon was great, quality of the treadmill was not.

This review is from: Phoenix 98836 Easy Up Motorized Treadmill (Silver/Black) (Sports)
If you're looking for an inexpensive treadmill without all the bells and whistles, this is perfect. I just wanted something I could walk/jog on when the weather wasn't cooperating. It went together fairly easily- I put it together myself- however it did take two other people to help me get it out of the box. It also isn't quite as portable as it claims- it's heavy and bulky- but if you only use it occasionally, or are going to leave it out somewhere, that's not too big a deal. The front piece does loosen up occasionally- I just tighten it up again. It hasn't been a detriment to a workout, and hasn't come completely off. For a $500 treadmill, this is exactly what I thought it would be.

    Phoenix 98516 Easy-Up Manual Treadmill

    Product Description

An economical yet reliable walking treadmill with smooth, quiet operation. Select your own space and alter it at any time any way you want! Very simple and user friendly design, yet equipped with heavy-duty steel frame and flywheel. Warranty is 90 days parts, 1 year frame. Maximum user weight is 250lbs. Not recommended or guaranteed for user over this limit.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Most treadmills are frightfully expensive, with bulky electric motors that power the treadmill while jacking up the price. No so the Easy-Up manual treadmill, which asks the user to power the belt instead. The treadmill is outfitted with a heavy-duty weighted flywheel and a sturdy 41.5-by-13.5-inch running belt that respond to your walking/jogging speed. The faster you run, the faster the belt spins, letting you reach whatever speed is comfortable. At the same time, the treadmill isn't completely low tech, as it offers a single-button electronics display that tracks your speed, distance, time, and calories (includes two AA batteries). And users with small homes or apartments will love the folding frame, which locks into the upright position and rolls away for easy storage in a closet or garage. The Easy-Up treadmill, which offers a maximum weight limit of 250 pounds, measures 46 by 50 by 21 inches (W x H x D) and carries a 90-day warranty on parts and a one-year warranty on the frame.

    About Treadmills
Walking is still considered one of the most beneficial cardiovascular exercises for people of all ages, body types, and fitness levels. As a fundamental form of aerobic training, walking has numerous physical benefits for the heart, lungs, and circulatory system, while also increasing muscle tone and burning fat calories. Treadmills provide a convenient way to regularly exercise in all weather conditions in the comfort and safety of your own home.

From beginners just starting an exercise regimen to advanced athletes looking to maintain their fitness level, anyone interested in getting and staying in shape can benefit greatly from regular use of a treadmill. Treadmills allow you to determine the pace, distance, and complexity of the workout based on your needs, all while watching television, talking on the telephone, or reading a magazine. Much easier on sensitive joints like the knees and hips, treadmill walking and running surfaces are typically long, padded platforms that allow ample room for a long stride and comfortable, low-impact walk or jog without the harsh contact of a concrete surface.

While many different types, styles, and price ranges of treadmills exist, many of them offer unique features like a fold-up design for easy storage, an electronic display monitor showing speed, distance, workout time, incline level, and burned calories, and EKG grip pulses to monitor the heart rate while exercising. Regardless of the simple to complex features you may choose, treadmills offer an array of aerobic exercise opportunities that will provide long-lasting beneficial cardiovascular results without a commute to the gym or a jog in the rain.

    • Manual treadmill with heavy-duty weighted flywheel and 41.5-by-13.5-inch belt
    • Single-button electronics display tracks speed, distance, time, and calories
    • Lets you achieve maximum walking/jogging speed via self-powered workout
    • Folds and locks in upright position for storage; 250-pound maximum weight limit

5.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all, May 21, 2007

Dee ML (New Jersey, USA) - See all my reviews
I am a college student, and I am very used to the gym at my school with the electric treadmills . I wanted to try a manual version because having the treadmill at home for the summer would be more convenient then shuffling to and from my campus just to use the gym. I have never used a manual treadmill and was biased to the electric -- and thought wrongly about the both of them as well.

Basically, an electric treadmill goes a set speed and your job is to catch up. With a manual treadmill you are powering it, so you control the intensity of the workout.

I usually walk a steady 3-4 miles per hour. On a manual treadmill I could not get a great, heart pounding, sufficient workout setting the speed to 3-4 miles per hour and walking along to the set speed of the belt. Minutes on the manual treadmill, I could definitely feel it. It's great because it makes you feel like you are actually doing something, but definitely a tough job after a while.

I'd say give it... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Good value if you just plan to use for walking, October 23, 2007
This review is from: Phoenix 98516 Easy-Up Manual Treadmill (Sports)
My first manual treadmill, and a decent product. Does take some time to get use to. Don't buy this if you expect to use this for running. Given that the treadmill needs to be at a small incline so your motion pushes the belt down and around, runnning is extremely difficult. Works well if you plan to use for fast walking in your home.

This review is from: Phoenix 98516 Easy-Up Manual Treadmill (Sports)
I love this treadmill! My husband was able to set it up in 15 minutes. We did have problems with the wiring for the digital counter, luckily my husband was able to solder the wires back together.

The incline is just right for a hard workout. Too bad it doesn't go level for a longer workout. I wouldn't recommend this for someone with bad knees. The lowest incline is a little steep and you can really feel it in your knees. I haven't made it to 30 minutes at one time. You really work up a sweat in 10 minutes.

Watch the screws, they loosen up sometimes and you can tell cause it makes a knocking sound. Just tighten it back up and you're good to go.

I would highly recommend this for keeping in shape. It's a really good workout. I keep mine's in front of the TV so I can exercise while watching my favorite show. It's easy to fold up and lightweight with wheels to move around.

The FREE amazon delivery of the treadmill came faster than usual; the shipping company called me to schedule a time for delivery to my house. They sent two guys and they brought it in all the way downstairs to my basement. This "free" service is outstanding. I read other reviews and people suggested you to open the box WHERE you intend to assemble it, so I followed through. I assemble it myself so it took longer than I could if I had an assistant. After lubricating the tread belt with the supplied silicone, I started running on the machine right away. I have been running about 12 miles on it so far (4 sessions of about 30 minutes each) and I cannot find any fault with the machine. It's quiet, stable and functional. I think the central bar chart LEDs are not as useful to people like me who find the two built-in programs too slow and need to set our own speed manually. Because this machine does not (seem to) allow users to program their own exercise programs, my console LEDs stay... Read more

Delivery was fairly quick, and shipping company called and gave the earliest date available for delivery, or I could pick a date anytime after.

The package is very heavy. I had the delivery guy put in my garage and then I moved it in my 'basement' on same level. If you have to go up or down a flight of stairs, be prepared to have an assistant. Assembly was quick, only 4 fairly easy steps, and all the tools were provided. The instructions were very well written, it was a breeze for me. Just a suggestion, also in the manual, they suggest not opening box until you get it where you want. The reason being is when you open the box, the feet on the treadmill automatically pop up. I did not do this because it was just me, and I wanted to lighten the load as much as possible, and I had to work my way around a door way, not a huge issue. The treadmill has wheels on the bottom to make I easier to move around. I bought a treadmill may to protect carpet.
